This Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m., the Libertarian Party at CSU will be meeting in the Sunken Lounge of the Lory Student Center (that's the area on the main level where the piano is).
If you're thought about becoming involved with the Libertarian Party on campus, this is your chance... 2006 is an election year, and so there are a lot of things going on, including:
- Political campaigns: the governor's race, U.S. Congress, and state legislature will all be open this year, and Libertarian candidates for those races can get a big boost from student support.
- Marijuana decriminalization: Libertarians are standing with SAFER Colorado in promoting a ballot measure which would eliminate criminal penalties for marijuana possession.
- Protecting private property: Libertarian are also supporting the Colorado Citizens for Property Rights' ballot measure which would limit the ability of the state to take away people's land.
By being involved in these campaigns, we can raise the profile of Libertarians by speaking out on important issues, grow the party, and help change the direction of government.
At this week's meeting, we're going to consider some amendments to our group's constitution requested by the student organizations office (see below), and begin planning for action during the 2006 elections.
