Meeting report -- down with paperwork!

This afternoon, we approved a constitution and bylaws for the LPCSU and elected our first officers: Seth Anthony as chair and Samantha Sly as treasurer. (Speaking of official rules: Can you believe that CSU has a dozen diferrent hoops that a group has to jump through to form as a campus organization? Whatever happened to the right to free association? Not to mention the stack of paperwork -- at least four separate forms!)

So, yeah, we'll file the paperwork and be officially recognized, so that after taking care of the formalities, we can really start to focus on activism at CSU and in Fort Collins. Some of the things we've discussed taking on:

- opposing the "three unrelated" housing ordinance coming before the city council in October, which would impose greater restrictions on rental properties
- fighting the multiple tax increases on November's ballot (Referenda C and D statewide, "Building on Basics" here in Fort Collins)
- instant-runoff voting in campus elections
- pushing marijuana legalization efforts like those currently making headway in Denver
- organizing and participating in debates on current issues with other campus political groups
- bringing libertarian speakers to CSU for large audiences
- continued outreach on campus and voter registation drives...

... and that's just what we've had time to think up so far! Join us! Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 8 at 5 p.m. underneath Newton's Corner. In a few more weeks, we'll have a real meeting room!

Comments:
Seth,
I'm working part time for the Independence Institute and part time for the Defeat C Campaign. We should chat. We'd like to get your help to ensure that the referenda go down in flames.
